Rev Sherman Wiley Baker, Sr., 92 of Forrest City, died on April 7th, 2016, at Baptist Hospital-East in Memphis, TN.
He was born January 30th, 1924 in Forrest City AR (Newcastle Community), to the late Rev. Henderson Baker and the late Mrs. Everleana Hurley Baker. At an early age he joined New Sardis Baptist Church.
Rev. Baker was a World War II Navy Veteran and pastor of First Baptist Church in Forrest City for 38 years.
Survivors are spouse, Mrs. Johnnie B. Baker, of Forrest City, his children Mr. Henderson Baker II of Alexandria, VA, Chaplain
'Col." Sherman W. Baker, Jr. of Landstuhl, Germany, Mr. Paul Baker of Forrest City, Miss Evelyn Avis Baker of Largo, MD and Miss Shandia R. Baker of Louisville, KY, brother, Mr. Therman A. Baker, Sr. of Neptune, NJ and four grandchildren.
The Funeral Service for Rev. Sherman Wiley Baker, SR will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, April 16th, at First Baptist Church, 306 E. Cross Ave., Forrest City, AR. Interment will be in New Sardis Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm on Friday, April 15th, 2016, at CLAY FUNERAL HOME, 2522 East Broadway, Forrest City, and on Saturday, April 16th starting at 10:00 am until 11:00 am at First Baptist Church, 306 E. Cross Ave.
